Wanaka is a small vibrant and cosmopolitan town on the shores of Lake Wanaka, in the Southern Lakes district of New Zealand's South Island. A less commercial alternative to nearby Queenstown, Wanaka vistors are frequently stunned by its beauty, its relaxed pace of life and its relative lack of commercialism. Not to mention an unparalleled range of year round recreational activities.

Near Wanaka Homestead
Commencing 200m from Wanaka Homestead, lakefront walking and mountain bike tracks stretch for many kilometres in either direction. Wanaka's shops and restaurants are a pleasant 1.5km or 15 minute walk along the Lake front, or a 2 minute drive. The shallow bay is perfect for summer swimming, fishing and water sports and in autumn is the photographers' favourite haunt. Wanaka Station Park is adjacent to the accommodation, offering undulating lawns, fruit trees, and a children's play area.
History
"Homestead" is an Antipodean term meaning "farmhouse". The first Homestead in Wanaka has long since burned down, but the theme and historical links to the original Wanaka Homestead are proudly continued.
